Ramblings

The newspaper writers are working overtime in order to buy Christmas gifts I guess because there's tons of goings-on and speculation this hump day. And I'm not going to link to any of them...

  • The ARod-Yankee reconciliation
  • C.C. wins his first C.Y.
  • Dustin Petunia wins AL R.O.Y. (I like that nick, it's so not him)
  • Rolen wants to get traded

  • Marlins might trade Cabrera and want a flying unicorn in return and the marlins believe the dodgers and angels are the teams most likely to have a flying unicorn.

  • Marlins might trade Willis, Uggla, and whoever else makes more than league minimum for young pitchers, preferably prospects with two or more years of all star quality play at the MLB level.
  • Cabrera is open to a position switch.

  • Dodgers like Delwyn Young, LaRoche, Hu, Kuo and former dodger youngsters (Ruggiano, Feng)continue to help their teams in the baseball world cup. I'm warming up to this more every year.

  • Non-specific Padres threesome nonsense involving Matt Kemp

  • Teams telling writers they are interested or talked to the agent of insignificant player X just to reassure fans they aren't sitting on their hands.

and stuff that wasn't said today but could come up again soon:

  • Mitchell report may be naming names soon...

  • Bonds says something dumb because he's tired of ARod getting so much attention...
Now my own personal Dodgers Marlins trade rambling:
If the blue really do go after Cabrera, I think they should make sure:
  1. Pierre goes the other way.
  2. The Marlins don't confuse the definition of what a prospect is (i.e. Billingsley, Loney, Martin, and Kemp are no longer prospects and therefore have far more value) in their demands for half of our starting young, players with 1 or 2 years experience.
  3. Don't trade any MLB level players not named Pierre or Broxton.
  4. Let the Marlins know that you believe Dontrelle Willis has negative trade value because of his pay level versus his performance. We don't want a left-handed Jeff Weaver.
  5. If you get a better offer than what's offered below from another team, congratulations.
Package 1: Elbert (lhsp), LaRoche (3b), Broxton (rhrp), D.Young (2b lf) or Abreu (2b), and Pierre (+$16 million over 4 years) (cf)

Package 2: Kershaw (lhsp), LaRoche (3b), Meloan (rhrp w/possibility of conversion back to starting), and Pierre (cf).

Fish get an MLB ready replacement for Cabrera in LaRoche. Fish also solidify CF for cheap by getting Pierre with half his salary paid for by the dodgers. Fish also get their choice of lefties, but choosing the younger uninjured one results in lesser players in the rest of the package. If they take a chance on Elbert, they get the better reliever and an upgrade to Uggla to go along with Pierre and LaRoche. The relievers received would have no trouble being converted back to starters for the Marlins. It's almost like getting two young starting pitching prospects. The only other prospect I wouldn't mind substituting is McDonald (rhsp). Billingsley, Kemp, Martin, and Loney shouldn't be options. Expanding the trade to include Willis and/or Uggla (especially Uggla) should be avoided but isn't automatically a dealbreaker depending on what they want back.
And that's how I see it.
