I like lists. The list linked to is the new BP prospect list by Kevin Goldstein. The chat about the list is even more entertaining. It just so happens on this day my blog first became useful to me as a recording of past thoughts and opinions. I looked over the baseball prospectus list of prospects and saw Andy LaRoche's name over Jacoby Ellsbury's. That warms my heart on such a cold day in southern Nevada.
In one of my previous posts here I discuss my hopes for the upcoming offseason being a trade of Furcal or Hu with LaRoche for Jacoby Ellsbury. This list, as meaningless as it is, makes me feel like I wasn't so exuberantly high on LaRoche when I proposed it back then. I really got shot down hard wherever I pedaled that idea (probably mlbtraderumors.com and a few dodgers blogs). So, turns out I wasn't so crazy in suggesting their talents were in the same league.
It's a hollow victory now since it doesn't matter. The dodgers didn't get ARod and acquired a free agent center fielder. On the other coast, the Red Sox chose to stick with Lowell for one too many years in my opinion which put the kibosh on their need for LaRoche. I wish I knew why Goldstein ranks LaRoche better than Ellsbury but it never got addressed in the chat.
As discussed before I really like Ellsbury (and so does my wife, but for different reasons). I only disliked him as much as I did (not very much) because my father-in-law had such a vicious man-crush on him for oh, about the last 3 years or so. I had to listen about how Jacoby Ellsbury was going to be the next Jonny Damon over and over at whatever family function I was at. I didn't mind it the first time I was told. I knew no family event could be complete without my father-in-law telling me how good Ellsbury is. Around the third or fourth retelling of the same message at the same family event or while I'm in my car, engine running, transmission in reverse, trying to leave and he knocks on the passenger window, sticks his head in, and proceeds to tell me one last time how Jacoby Ellsbury could be roaming center field for the sox very soon (and this guy professes to be a S.F. Giants fan!).
Well, he was right, so how can I complain?
