Didn't get to actually watch the game because it was only on local television, so I followed it on gameday. Red Sox versus white sox I did actually get to watch since it was on fox. Buchholz really struggled against a white sox team (to me) that pretty much swings at most anything you throw slightly off the plate. Francona seemed to want the kid to lose instead of taking him out. I don't follow the sox enough to know how tired their pen is, so maybe Francona didn't have the luxury of just pulling him really early, but Boston gave back the lead and then some. Aardsema threatened to make it way worse as he seemed to have a case of the wildies when he hit Quentin and then almost hit Dye. Do they drop Buchholz from the rotation and go with someone else? I don't know but that seems like it wouldn't be a bad idea with the sox being in the hunt. It's a bad time for on the job training for the team and Buchholz. At least the red sox scored a few runs and made it a close game, which leads me to how my team fared.
The dodgers just suffered the worst loss of their season to the giants yesterday afternoon. Having arguable the worst infield defense in the major leagues came home to roost at AT&T park. Casey Blake misplayed a grounder that loaded the bases. The powerless giants then proceeded to win the game on a grounder that got by two dodger fielders and allowing the winning run. Kinda glad I couldn't watch it live now that I come to think about it. Hopefully it doesn't have a demoralizing effect. Maybe it means we see even more defensive substitutions late in games. That could mean more of a taste of Martin at third and Lucas May behind the dish once rosters expand. It fits Torre's style as he's been into replacing Kent's glove defensively for a while now.
I think they should start batting Manny third. I think this would help because of the dodgers record in games they score first and they score most of their runs in the first inning. What better way to ensure you have the best chance to score a run or runs than to make sure the bat is in Manny's hands in the first inning. Kent has no business being in the three hole. He may still have some killer/clutch instinct and may have once made a career of either protecting or being protected by other big hitters, but with a slightly slower bat, Kent just can't do that anymore. The dodgers have better hitters than Kent. One of them whom managers always seem to forget about is named 'Dre. He comes with the added bonus of hitting left handed behind the right handed Ramirez. Bat Kent fifth and let Loney get out of his slump in the 6 spot. R/L/R/L. Kemp and Martin should probably be put up in the one and two slots even though Martin seems to be showing some signs of wear. Hopefully the team figures it out and takes advantage of all their opportunities while not giving the opposing teams wins based on the failure to execute fundamental plays. Stop booting the ball!
