O.K. Maybe A Team Can't Have Enough Pitching, But They Can Pay Too Much For It

Dodgers traded Wilson Betemit for Scott Proctor today. Oh well, didn't want the blue to trade useful players for relief pitchers but it could have been worse. To me, this fits the trend of Ned Colletti trading guys and not getting a sufficient return but still obtaining a player that may fill the need the dodgers are trying to fill.

In a perfect world that Nomar Garciaparra commercial wouldn't have been so darn entertaining and Nomar's exit from town in favor of Wilson Betemit wouldn't be a big deal.

The silver lining is that it could be a sign that the organization is confident in Andy LaRoche
as their future third baseman (I just saw him hit his homer in Vegas last night. It was a very hard line drive to left field that was still ascending as it went over the wall. It left in a huge hurry). Still, Betemit could have been tried at second and at the very least the same role he played on the braves as a utility infielder/pinch hitter. Olmedo Saenz isn't getting any younger and he's probably not coming back unless he gets hot soon.

Despite the silver lining I just think this trade was unecessary and all the dodgers had to do was call up Jonathan Meloan, but I guess Ned didn't think the guy was ready. Scott Proctor's much written about overusage may not be such a big deal considering that with Grady Little managing and the bullpen in L.A., Scott Proctor most likely won't be pitching two to three innings every other game. The reduced workload I can only hope will give him a second win and his performance will improve.
