Another Coach Bites the Dust

Another little piece of offseason news. David Jauss, the now former bench for the dodgers has decided he'd like to dress up like a pirate and talk to people like the actor in the newest freecreditreport.com commercial.  Not really a big deal except for maybe it means Manny Mota can dress up and be in the dugout again if they just decide to promote one of the other coaches that will be staying.  If only it could have been Rich Donnelly, who usually appears to be a starving man trying to hitch a ride as the third base coach whenever a ball is in play with runners already on.

In other coaching news, over at mlb.com there was an article that mentions that the dodgers aren't thinking about canning Little despite Joe Torre hitting the open market and stating at his press-conference that he wouldn't expect the kind of money he got from the bombers. Sounds like the kind of terms some who stereotype the McCourt's would believe they'd jump at.  Despite being really good and cheap, I just don't think Torre is a good fit for L.A. because of all the younger players.  Not that he still wouldn't or couldn't be an upgrade over Little, just why bother when the organization has already been changing coaches and other personnel at a dizzying pace and Grady still doesn't even have all "his guys" in yet.

I don't like the yanks in the slightest but they acted like a puppy-kicking psychopath the way they went about 'holding Torre accountable' for not winning the world series in the last few years or so.  If this is how the younger Steinbrenners will be running the franchise, expect the shiny new statues in the spanking new stadium to lose their luster quickly in the eyes of most people working in the baseball world.  I am not qualified for the job in the least and I would have at least:
  1. Not put it in the papers.
  2. Thank the guy for his performance.
  3. Recognize his hall of fame performance for my franchise.
  4. Quietly let him know I think the franchise needs to go in a different direction.
  5. In the same sentence offer him to name what front office position he'd like to do to stay.
  6. Attempt to meet the guy who gave you 12 years instead of Torre having to be more man than you and go out of his way to do it himself.

I mean, did the Yankees have security watch him remove his belongings and escort him off their premises?  Some people get so full of themselves they forget how to treat others.  Oh well, Yankees (and maybe espn's) loss and a gain for the front offices of the rest of the league.
Maybe they're heading for an ownership phase that resembles when Fox owned the dodgers. We can only hope.

Go Sox!  Make it 3-3 tonight!
