When the story ran about the alcoholic mom dying in police custody at an airport it made me sad but I didn't pay too much attention. I mean, cops are jacking innocent people every day but usually they are poor and/or minorities and it doesn't make national news. What really got me angry though was reading this report from CNN. This just outrages me on a personal level. There are tons of rude and inconsiderate things going on every day like people doing their makeup while driving in the fast lane at 50 miles an hour and tapping their brakes. There are people talking on their cell phones in a crowded elevator and raising their voice because of the elevator music. But for the love of whatever God you believe in, and if you don't believe in God, then for the love of the brother and sisterhood of humanity please have the respect for another human being to not worry about towing the company line or keeping yourself or your company from accountability by purposely not telling another human being that their loved one is dead as they repeatedly call explaining her situation and urging the representatives of U.S. Airways to take care with her in a vulnerable state to a bunch of, "hmmm...'s and "uh-huh's" from different people in the corporate phone tree of U.S. Airways. Whatever corporate culture spawned those phone calls between U.S. Airways and the authorities that regarded the wife and the husband as dirty diapers that they haven't figured out what to do with is incompatible with my wallet ingratiating their bottom line. This goes beyond cold blooded. This is an example of the evil in unchecked capitalism. Deregulation lowers cost and creates competition, but at what cost to us consumers? Well, here's one of the costs when you play a game of monopoly with these type of house rules.
Beyond the whole chewing up customer's money and spitting them out before spitting on them is just plain human decency. Do unto others people. It's hard sometimes in very weird situations you may encounter, but usually it's pretty simple. Would you want a corporate runaround in a phone tree while a cop and some airport call center guy are discussing what the husband of a dead woman needs to and doesn't need to know while she's dead in handcuffs?
Let me repeat that rambling run-on sentence again...nevermind, just read it again for me, O.K.?
Thanks.
