Ronnie Belliard...yawn

In that same Times article, there is a report the dodgers put in a waiver claim on second baseman Ronnie Belliard, mostly to make sure the D-backs don't get him to make up for the injured O-Dog. Belliard is guaranteed $1.9 million for '09. Even if the dodgers end up taking him on he wouldn't be all that bad as a one year stop-gap insurance for the positions. He seems like a decent number eight hitter. He doesn't get on base all that great but he has a bit of power, is used to being a backup, and is hitting better this season than Berroa has. In my opinion, the dodgers may as well stick with Berroa in my opinion or bring back Pedro Martinez. There is no urgency to acquire this guy, the blocking of him going to the d-backs and him getting hot have been accomplished. And here is the rest of it. Guess I shouldn't have devoted more than 3 sentences to this.

The dodgers start a three game series against the brew crew. At least they miss having to face C.C. Sabathia. Arizona gets to face the astros, a bit of an easier matchup compared to the brewers. I hope the d-backs happen to stumble this series.
