Beane Still Working Hard

A little nonsense rumor regarding the dodgers at the bottom of this article in the denver post that's mainly about the Rockies rotation. You have to give Beane credit for maximizing his return for guys his team no longer can afford. I don't think any other G.M. believes the dodgers are pushing hard for another quality starting pitcher, but I guess it doesn't hurt to try. If the dodgers really needed another pitcher badly, like if Brad Penny and Derek Low made a suicide pact to quit baseball together if either of them fell low enough to have to use their little black book to call Paris Hilton and come to find out they both arrive at Hilton's doorstep on the same, desperate night. Then Ethier and LaRoche for Blanton starts to not sound so bad. It still sounds very bad, just not indefensibly bad.

Anyways, this is nothing to worry about as Ned Colletti hasn't done anything this silly, even when he was doing trades with the D-Rays. And I guess that'll probably be it in dodgers news this Sunday.

Update: Thought I published this post yesterday morning when I wrote it but....noooo. So might as well add that the boston globe basically says that Schilling's arm isn't insured and that the medical staff wasn't all too keen on re-signing him. In Blanton news, I guess the legs have gone Webster sized as the rumor linking the dodgers to Blanton got re-iterated at foxsports.com while somehow you can cross the red sox off the list even though their #3 guy went down before spring training could even start. Replacing Schilling's performance is a lot more difficult to do with farm hands and NRI's than replacing Tomko and Hendrickson 4'th-5'th starter numbers. Don't trade with Beane either, Red Sox.
