Seems like there is some strife in regards to Tony Abreu's injury and the roster he's on. I don't much like Scott Boras but I think he's in the right here. It just isn't in Abreu's self-interest to fake an injury. If he was faking because he was angered at his demotion, shouldn't his injury have disappeared when Wilson Betemit was traded, creating a need for another infielder?
I don't know whether this was a legitimate mistake. Maybe Abreu fell through the cracks during a busy GM time with the roster shuffling near the deadline under archaic baseball rules. Maybe it was a calculated decision to try to cut a corner to save a few bucks and some service time for the club. Doesn't seem like the dodgers are strapped enough to do that to young players they figure on having around for a number of years as it isn't very endearing. Maybe Abreu acted out already in ways not quite endearing to the club. Who knows.
I do know it smells fishy to me because it just doesn't make sense. Maybe it was a borderline situation where things could have gone either way and the GM decided to take another personal swipe at an agent everyone knows Ned doesn't care much for. I think that's closer to the truth but it will take some more time for more truth to come out. If I am close to the truth with my guess, then the two middle aged guys involved need to stop playing out their differences over some other guy's life.
Here's hoping Abreu's health gets figured out and he can be the utility infielder for the dodgers again soon.
