David Wells was designated for assignment per Ken Rosenthal.
The Dodgers need to be all over this. It's not guaranteed that Wells will contribute if acquired, but this is a low cost potentially high reward acquisition that could help end this losing streak.
Here's why: David Wells is very competitive. He will come to the Dodgers very angry and very desiring to prove he can still pitch. Wells fieriness and focus could be just what the slumping Dodgers need in their clubhouse in the immediate future to turn things around. Even better is if we don't wait for Boomer's release we can give up next to nothing by just taking on most of his salary, thereby saving even a remote chance of giving up a kid we'll regret 5 years down the road.
If nothing else Wells is still an upgrade over Tomko 80% of the time. Wells will have some bad starts, just like Maddux still does, but sometimes out of nowhere he'll throw a shutout. Tomko is incapable of doing that.
